What is a Mini Facelift?

The mini facelift is an excellent cosmetic procedure to address early signs of aging for patients in their late 30’s to mid 40’s. As with full facelift procedures, there are different approaches to performing a mini facelift. There is a skin-only mini facelift, a SMAS elevation mini facelift, an endoscopic mini facelift and a deep plane mini facelift. At Solomon Facial Plastic, Dr. Solomon utilizes all of these techniques but most commonly performs the deep plane mini facelift or endoscopic mini facelift.

The mini facelift procedure primarily addresses the mid-face and jawline which requires a shorter incision than that used in a regular facelift. The incision begins at the mid-temples and continues along the inner tragus, and ends just behind the earlobe. This creates a discreet and well-hidden scar that will allow patients to feel comfortable wearing their hair up without tell-tale signs of surgery.

What is a Deep Plane Mini Facelift?

The deep plane technique addresses the layer beneath the SMAS, releasing the facial ligaments for greater repositioning of the facial structure. The cheek can be better elevated and the results can be smoother, more natural, and have greater longevity. In combining the deep plane technique with the mini facelift, patients are getting a procedure that is not the average mini facelift. Utilizing the deep plane approach, the results look more natural, have greater longevity, provide a snatched jawline and give a more significant lift, especially in the cheek region.

Who is a Mini Facelift Candidate?

Individuals who do not require the changes that a comprehensive facelift achieves, a mini facelift is the ideal alternative. This procedure specifically targets cheeks, midface sagging, jowl formation and a lack of jawline definition, however, it does not address the neck.

The ideal candidate can range from between 30 years of age to mid-40s and is experiencing early signs of aging to the mid-face and jawline. The mini facelift is most commonly performed on female patients who want to enter their mid-life maintaining their youthful appearance. Addressing signs of aging in their early stages can make for a less invasive surgical procedure and easier recovery.

How Much Does a Mini Facelift Cost in Toronto?

A mini facelift provides long-lasting results while non-surgical treatments such as fillers and neuromodulators are great tools for the aging process. However, these non-surgical treatments have limitations as to what they can accomplish and can require ongoing maintenance. A mini facelift on the other hand offers a more permanent solution that can last well into mid-life, making a mini facelift a cost-effective option in the long run.

At the heart of determining the mini facelift cost in Toronto are factors such as the surgeon’s expertise and credentials, the complexity of the individual’s case, and the specific techniques utilized during the surgery.

At Solomon Facial Plastic, each mini facelift is tailored to the individual’s unique facial structure and aesthetic goals, therefore costs may vary depending on the surgical requirements.

The Mini Facelift: The Procedure

A mini facelift surgery is typically between 2- 3 hours in length and is performed at the Solomon Nasal and Facial Plastic Surgery Centre in Toronto or in a local hospital if preferred. Patients have the luxury of choosing to have their surgery under IV sedation or general anesthesia.

Dr. Solomon meticulously and discreetly creates incisions at the hairline, along the ear edge to just behind the earlobe. This strategic positioning ensures minimal visibility of any scarring and allows patients to feel comfortable wearing their hair up without any signs of surgery. With precision, Dr. Solomon lifts the SMAS (superficial musculoaponeurotic system) and the skin layer, which gives the most natural mini facelift result.

Mini Facelift vs. Facelift

Unlike more extensive surgeries, the mini facelift targets the midface and jowl — areas that often are the first to reveal early signs of aging. By focusing on this area, Dr. Solomon can effectively reduce sagging and restore youthful contours with less downtime.

Whether you’re a millennial desiring a naturally snatched look or an older patient seeking a more defined jawline, our personalized approach caters to your unique goals and concerns.

  • How long does a Mini Facelift last?

The results of a mini facelift typically turn back the clock anywhere from 5-10 years. How long the results will last depends on a combination of factors, genetics, lifestyle and environmental factors. Dr. Solomon’s mini facelift incorporates the deep plane facelift technique which in itself provides a longer lasting outcome.

  • What are the downsides to a Mini Facelift procedure?

If the mini lift is performed on the right candidate, it’s a great procedure that can last up to 10 years. The downside is that it’s a limited procedure in that it only addresses the mid-face and therefore isn’t suited for everyone. Most people, as they age, do need to address the lower face and neck, as well as the mid-face.

  • What is the ideal age for a Mini Facelift?

The mini facelift is best suited for those in their 30’s and 40’s. Once patients reach their mid 50’s, likely advanced signs of aging will have started to affect the lower face (jawline, jowls) and neck.

  • Who would a Mini Facelift be suitable for?

This is a procedure that is available to restore the face but not dramatically restore the neck. This procedure is suitable for younger patients who are looking to improve the contour of their cheeks, jawline and lessen the Nasolabial fold and reduce some of the heaviness that can occur with the again process as your face descends.

  • What Is The Best Facelift Option?

Different anatomy can dictate which facelift technique is most suitable. In older female patients, the deep plane facelift will address the lower face, jawline, jowls, and neck and is often the appropriate procedure for this demographic. In younger female patients, a mini-facelift will address the mid-face where early signs of aging may have begun. A mini-facelift does not include the neck.

A neck lift in females is typically reserved for women looking to reshape an obtuse-shaped neck without the need to address their lower face.

An isolated neck lift alone is more commonly utilized in men who do not want or need their lower face addressed with surgery.

  • Is a Mini Facelift the best facelift option?

A patients’ facial anatomy is what dictates which facelift technique is most suitable. The term “mini” is often used as a marketing term, however mini actually refers to the length of the incision. Younger patients who are only looking to address their mid-face are typically the best candidates for a mini facelift. A mini facelift does not include the neck. The incision for a mini facelift starts at the temple and ends behind the earlobe, whereas the incision for a full face lift also starts at the temple but extends beyond the earlobe continuing up behind the ear and along the hairline towards the back of the neck.

Learn The Key Differences Between A Mini and Full Facelift In Toronto

Cosmetic Surgery Procedure: Facelift

One of the ways that Toronto facelifts have grown more accessible is through the development of mini lifts; scaled back procedures that offer more targeted facial treatment options. Mini facelifts are useful for creating minor-to-moderate changes and have the added benefit of costing less and having faster recovery times. The procedure does have its limits, however, and understanding the differences between a mini lift and a full facelift will help you figure out which is best for your needs.

Full Facelift

A full facelift in Toronto is the best way to get dramatic change in one’s facial appearance. A full lift addresses every area of concern across the lower, middle, and upper sections of the face. This inclusive approach removes excess skin along the neck and chin, tightens and tones the facial muscles, and includes an element of liposuction to suck out excess fat deposits.

Additionally, a full lift can reposition the underlying fat pads of the cheeks (which sag and drop with age) to create a more youthful contour. Depending on patient preference, it is also possible to combine a facelift with a browlift or blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) to address baggy skin and brow wrinkles.

Mini Facelift

The easiest way to explain the difference between getting a mini lift and full facelift in Toronto is that a mini lift almost exclusive targets the mid-face region. This area includes the jowls, cheeks, and nasolabial folds (the lines between nose and mouth) but does not include anything higher than the nose or lower than the mouth.

The surgical approach is different from a full facelift and can be more minimal, allowing for around a single week of recovery rather than the normal two. The incisions are also smaller, which means noticeable scarring is much less likely. Mini lifts do not normally include liposuction.

Which Is Right For Me?

Mini lifts are good for treating mild-to-moderate facial sagging and muscle tone issues but are unable to address loose skin along the neck and jaw. This makes mini lifts preferable for younger patients, typically in the 30-40 range, who have not developed the skin laxity to be particularly “jowly”.

Older patients, particularly individuals who have been consistently slim for most of their lives, may also not have enough loose skin in the neck and jaw to warrant a full facelift. Since a mini lift is not as dramatic, its results are also subtler compared to a full procedure.

This, combined with the 3-7 day recovery time, can make a mini lift attractive to people who don’t necessarily want others to know they’ve had work done. A final advantage to mini lifts is that they can be performed under local anesthesia, which can be a valuable option for certain people.

The main difference between a mini and full facelift is the areas being addressed. If you have loose skin and fat deposits along the jaw and jowls, a full lift will be required. If you only have mild-to-moderate sagging in the mid-face region, a mini lift will be a more affordable and convenient way to achieve your aesthetic goals.
