Forehead or brow lifts offer a youthful appearance around the eyes and forehead. They are popular because they can remove years from a person’s face without extensive surgical procedures. The brow lift simply involves repositioning and lifting the eyebrow.
During your initial consultation, Dr. Solomon will evaluate your facial features and skin quality to determine the best type of brow lift and whether you are a suitable candidate.
What is an eyebrow lift?
An eyebrow lift rejuvenates the facial area above your eyes to provide a refreshed appearance. Excess skin on the forehead is removed while underlying tissues and muscles are repositioned. This procedure also works well to correct sagging, heavy brows, hooded eyes, and deep furrows. It restores a smoother, rejuvenated look to the upper third of the face.
The Types of Brow Lifts
The most notable area of the face is the eyes. Tired-looking, sagging eyes can make many people self-conscious and affect their interactions. To boost their confidence, they often select a brow lift for a more subtle change.
Three common forms of forehead or brow lifts are the following:
- Endoscopic Brow Lift: This type offers a less invasive alternative to traditional methods. Some cosmetic surgeons utilize endoscopes, which are small cameras, to view and alter sagging muscles without being invasive. Your surgeon creates a series of ¾” incisions behind your hairline. They use thin instruments and a tiny camera to reposition forehead muscles and tissues. Excess tissue and fat are eliminated to create a youthful appearance.
- Classic (Coronal) Brow Lift: Incisions are made along the hairline by lifting the forehead skin to remove excess fat and tissue. The surgeon then repositions the eyebrows and trims the excess skin. It generates a lifted and smooth effect on the brows and eyes.
- Temporal/Limited Incision Brow Lifts: Temporal lifts create longer incisions than the endoscopic method. This procedure is done in conjunction with eyelid surgery. Incisions are one inch in length above each temple, behind your hairline. Through the incisions, your surgeon will reposition and lift tissues of your upper brows. With incisions created for the upper eyelid surgery, the area between the eyebrows is lifted to eliminate frown lines.
Skilled surgeons can show you how to reshape and refresh your appearance using the brow lift. They can correct hooded or drooping eyelids.
Why have a brow lift?
Aging foreheads affect our facial expressions. Heavily furrowed, sagging brows can make one appear worried, angry, or tired. Some individuals are also inclined to have thicker, heavier brows, which can make them appear to frown when content. Brow lifts address the above issues and help patients enjoy a more refreshed look in addition to other positive attributes:
- Increased approachability as you no longer appear concerned or angry
- Self-confidence improves as you are not worried about your appearance
- Eyes are naturally alert, vibrant and more youthful
The Benefits
- Lifts sagging brows: This procedure lifts sagging brows for a refreshed and vibrant appearance.
- Eliminates forehead wrinkles: Brow lifts eradicate fine lines and wrinkles on the forehead for a smoother look.
- Youthful appearance: By reducing the effects of aging in this area, brow lifts help people feel and look refreshed. They also positively impact their quality of life and self-confidence.
What to Expect
Preparation
Before your surgical brow lift, ensure these items are on hand for easy access. While Dr. Solomon will provide instructions and ensure you are prepared for the aftercare stage, the basic guidelines include having the following:
- Cold compress (washcloths, ice, and plastic bags [for ice and towels])
- Clean towels
- Gauze
- Additional pillows
Your head should remain elevated throughout your recovery. If you are interested in the procedure, view our video on YouTube for additional information.
Post-Surgery and Recovery
Patients are discharged at the end of the day after receiving their surgical brow lift. We advise you to arrange for someone to return you to your home after your stay. This individual should be available to care for you for the first few nights. Since recovery times vary, you may be unable to return to work for one to two weeks to allow healing time.
The first several nights are often the most challenging. However, with assistance, they may not be as demanding. Most patients are prescribed pain medication, but may not need it as the discomfort is nominal.
You may need to wear compression bandages for the first 24 hours. Sleep upright for the first two days, using several pillows to elevate your head. Do not shower for the first 24 hours. However, after that, you can use a gentle baby shampoo and avoid excessive heat.
Bruising and swelling are common during the first week. To decrease swelling, use cold compresses or ice packs. Your forehead may itch as part of the healing process, but refrain from touching it.
Stitches are removed within one to two weeks, depending on how quickly you heal. Refrain from strenuous activities and exercise for six weeks. The technique used determines the placement and severity of scarring. Endoscopic methods conceal scars along the hairline. Dr. Solomon will prescribe an ointment to decrease scar tissue.
While the results may not be imminently visible, within several days, the swelling decreases, and scars start to heal. This will provide a glimpse of your new appearance. Complications are rare with skilled surgeons. However, some patients experience temporary loss of sensation or infection.
When your brow lift is performed by an experienced cosmetic surgeon like Dr. Solomon, improvements last for many years. However, nothing can prevent the normal aging process. Eventually, your forehead challenges will return with gravity and time. The best way to preserve results is to incorporate healthy living.
Your body and skin will look their best if you use sunscreen daily, eat a diet that is rich in vitamins and whole foods, and avoid smoking.
