Patient question:

Is there a procedure to repair earlobes or stretched ear piercings? If so, please name and describe this procedure. What is the cost for a patient? Are there any side effects/risks? Is there any scarring? Is it possible to pierce the ear lobe after recovery? How common is this procedure?

Dr. Solomon’s Answer:

This should not be construed as medical advice. I am a Board Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon. And Otolaryngologist Head and Neck Surgeon.
Yes, there is a procedure to repair slit or elongated earlobe piercings. The hole has to be completely removed surgically; then, both sides of the hole are closed with a few small sutures. The Otoplasty surgery procedure usually takes about ten minutes per ear lobe; the side effects are uncommon. The most common side effect would be that the ear lobe shape can be altered slightly from the procedure.

Earlobe Repair is a very common procedure. Scarring is usually minimal. Cost is generally 300 dollars ($300 CAD) per ear.
